History
A brief history of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG)
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was founded in 1952 by Pastor Josiah Akindayomi in Lagos, Nigeria. He was led by God to start a Bible-based church focused on holiness and prayer. In 1973, Enoch Adejare Adeboye joined RCCG and became General Overseer in 1981 after Akindayomi’s death. Under Pastor Adeboye’s leadership, the church experienced rapid growth and global expansion. RCCG introduced the model parish system to plant churches worldwide.
The church holds monthly Holy Ghost Services at the Redemption Camp, drawing millions. RCCG is now present in over 190 countries around the world. It emphasizes holiness, evangelism, and preparing believers for heaven. The church also invests in education, healthcare, and community development. Today, RCCG is one of the most influential Pentecostal churches globally.
